Keto Diet and Olive Oil

Everywhere we turn, we hear people talking about the keto diet. What is it and should you adopt it?

If you are going keto, take care of your health and use olive oil instead of saturated fats. Olive Oil vs Coconut Oil for your heart

Have you ever wondered which one is better for you?
We looked into it and here is what we found.

  • Olive Oil is mostly heart healthy monounsaturated fat while coconut oil is mostly saturated fat.
  • The FDA and the American Heart Association have encouraged Americans to replace saturated fats with monounsaturated in their diets.
  • Olive oil’s health benefits are well documented. There is no good evidence for adding coconut oil to your diet.
  • Extra virgin coconut oil is just as bad for you as regular coconut oil. Meanwhile, extra virgin olive oil and regular olive oil are both good for your heart.

Mediterranean diet with extra virgin olive oil linked to weight loss

The study looked at more than 7000 participants who were divided into three groups and were tracked over five years. The first group was asked to follow an unrestricted-calorie Mediterranean diet supplemented with additional extra virgin olive oil; the second group was asked to follow an unrestricted-calorie Mediterranean diet supplemented with additional nuts; and the third group was asked to follow a low-fat diet. More than 90% of the participants were overweight or obese at the time of the study and were between the ages of 55 and 80 years of age.
The results showed that all three groups lost weight, but the greatest weight loss came from the group that followed the Mediterranean diet supplemented with extra virgin olive oil – 0.88kg compared with 0.60 kg on the low-fat diet.

Food As Fuel -
Optimize Your Output With Olive Oil

Olive oil, long a staple of the Mediterranean diet, can help supercharge your activity and maximize your recovery. This superfood contains phenolic compounds that rebuild muscle, improve cardiovascular health and reduce swelling, perfect for athletes of any age. It can even prevent bone loss in older adults, keeping people in the game longer.

Olive oil is is naturally rich in monounsaturated fats (MUFAs), which stimulate protein production on the cellular level. This helps rebuild muscle after tough workouts. As an additional benefit, these MUFAs also help reduce bad choloesterol levels in your blood, which promotes greater cardiovascular health.

Active adults will need just 2-3 tablespoons per day to see benefits, so it can easily be incorporated into your regular meals.
